An IP address (Internet Protocol address) is like a special number that gets assigned to your device whenever it connects to a network, such as the internet. Think of it as your device's home address it's how data knows exactly where to go.
Two main types:
IPv4: This format looks like 192.168.1.1 and is the most common, but there’s a limited supply of these addresses.
IPv6: This one appears as 2001:0db8:85a3::8a2e:0370:7334 and is newer, offering a much larger range of addresses.
What it does:
It identifies your device on a network.
It allows websites and servers to send data back to you.
It helps direct internet traffic to the right places.
Public vs Private:
Public IP: This is assigned by your internet provider and can be seen on the internet.
Private IP: This is used within your local network, like your home Wi-Fi.
