We collect only what we need to run Talk4Now safely: your account, your profile, and basic activity data.

What we collect

Name, email, and avatar from Google or Discord sign-in.
Profile info you add, like username, bio, country, and languages.
Room activity stats, like total minutes and conversation count.
Follow and moderation data needed for safety features.
Encrypted DM message content (encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM).
Your IP address and the approximate country it points to, plus a device identifier, used to keep the community safe (for example, to stop banned accounts from coming back).
Usage and performance analytics from tools such as Google Analytics, Microsoft Clarity and DebugBear, on the website and in the app.

What we do not collect

Your Google or Discord password.
Precise GPS location.
Identity documents.
Voice recording files from live rooms.

How we use data

We use data to run authentication, show profiles, power voice rooms and DMs, prevent abuse, and improve reliability. We also use session cookies so you stay signed in.

Advertising and cookies

This applies to the website only. The Talk4Now Android app shows no ads.
Talk4Now shows ads through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on your visits to Talk4Now and other sites on the internet.
You can turn off personalized ads in Google Ads Settings, or opt out of other ad vendors' cookies at aboutads.info.

Talk4Now Android app

The Talk4Now app for Android shows the same Talk4Now service, so everything on this page applies to it too. In addition:

Microphone:used only while you're in a voice room, to stream your voice live to the other people in the room (through our voice provider, LiveKit). We never record or store it. The app asks for permission when you first join a room.
Sign-in:Google sign-in uses your phone's Google account picker; Discord sign-in opens in your browser. We receive the same name, email and photo as on the website.
Photos:when you send an image in chat, you pick it with Android's photo picker. The app can't see your other photos.
Notifications:if you allow them, we store a notification token for your phone (from Google Firebase Cloud Messaging) to tell you about new direct messages and @mentions. DM notifications show only the sender's name, never the message. The token is deleted when you sign out or delete your account, and you can turn notifications off in Android settings.
No ads and no advertising ID: the app doesn't show ads and doesn't use your device's advertising ID.
All data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS and secure WebSockets).

Message Encryption

Direct messages (Hangouts) are encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM before being stored in our database. This means plaintext messages are never directly visible in the database layer.

Because the encryption key is stored server-side, Talk4Now operators can decrypt messages when necessary for safety and moderation purposes (e.g., investigating abuse reports). This is not end-to-end encryption — messages are encrypted on the server rather than on your device.

Public chat rooms are not encrypted, as they are designed for open community interaction.

Retention and control

We keep data only as needed for product operations and safety. You can edit your profile at any time. For legal details, read our Terms of Service.

Delete account requests

To delete your account, open the account menu (your avatar in the top right) and choose Delete my account. Your account closes immediately and is permanently deleted after 7 days. This works the same in the Android app. Step-by-step instructions, including what we delete: Delete your account.
