The difference is in both pronunciation and meaning.
âShipâ is pronounced /ĘÉŞp/ like âshipâ with a short âiâ sound, as in âsitâ. It means a large boat that travels on water.
âSheepâ is pronounced /ĘiËp/ with a long âeeâ sound, as in âseeâ. It refers to the animal that gives wool.
So the key difference:
Ship has a short vowel sound (ÉŞ)
Sheep has a long vowel sound (iË)
That small vowel change completely changes the meaning, even though the words look almost the same.
